The jeans are a great piece of clothing for any season and probably will never go out of fashion. Depending on their quality and brand, they may last longer, but that is not the only factor for their durability. It is also important to take good care of them. If you want to keep their shape and color you need to follow few rules. It is nothing complicated; it is just basic tips for prolonging their lifetime.
You can’t control all the factors that affect the lifespan of your jeans, but there are few things you can do. Especially if you have paid a lot to get a good pair of jeans, than this tips will come in handy for sure.
Limit the washing to a minimum
The jeans should not be washed after every wearing. That is the basic rule that you must follow. When you are doing this too often, the fabric is getting looser and the jeans are losing their shape. Wear them at least 5 times before you decide to put them in the washing machine.
Do not wash them in hot water and use cold water instead. This way you are preserving their color and keeping their shape. Turn them inside-out before washing and try not to wash them with other clothes.
For best results, you may wash them on hand. You can do this easily if you soak them in cold water for one hour and add small amount of soft detergent. Occasionally agitate them without rubbing. Leave them to dry on a room temperature.
Different types of jeans require different ways of washing. That’s why you should always check their tag on the back.
Dry them the right way
Never dry your jeans in a dryer. This is the worst thing you can do to your jeans. Forget about it! Hang them by the belt loops on a wire or a clothing rack, so they can keep their shape while drying. It may take them longer to dry, but believe me it is the best possible way.
This way you will keep the material from breaking and shrinking.
Ironing while they are still damp
To keep them looking fresh and new you should iron them while they are still damp. This will keep them from stretching.
Fold your jeans
If you want to keep their form you should never hang them in your wardrobe. Best way to keep them from stretching is by folding them like the stores do.
If you already ruined a pair of jeans, you can always make a great pair of shorts out of them.
