Did you do a lot of shopping this summer and are now wondering what to do with all of your summer clothing this fall and winter?! I am here to tell you that your entire summer wardrobe does not have to go into hibernation this winter. Many women believe that you must have a separate wardrobe for winter, spring, summer, and fall, and that is totally false! While there are staple pieces needed for each season like shorts for summer, jackets for winter, and sweaters for fall, you can definitely mix and match your clothing throughout the seasons. Let’s talk about the 5 pieces of summer clothing that you can wear year round.
Tank Tops
Don’t put all of your summer tank tops away just yet! Tank tops make great layering pieces. You can wear them under sweaters, leather jackets, blazers, bomber jackets and more! Instead of wearing a long sleeved shirt as a layer, wear one of the tank tops you bought over the summer.
Maxi Dresses
When you buy maxi dresses, you probably only think about wearing them in the spring and summer. Have you ever considered wearing a maxi dress or maxi skirt in the fall and winter? Wear a chambray shirt over your dress, add a scarf, and you are styled for the colder months!
Jean shorts
If you live in the warmer parts of the country, jean shorts should never, ever go into hibernation. If the weather only drops as low as 50-60 F degrees in the fall and winter (LUCKY you!), you should rock jean shorts with sweaters all season long. Wearing cut off jean shorts with suede over the knee boots and a chunky knit sweater is a very popular look amongst celebrities. Don’t be afraid to try it out!
Slip Dresses
One of the most popular trends right now are slip dresses. If you snagged one up during the spring or summer, do not hang it in the back of your closet just yet. Wear a long sleeved basic tee under the slip dress, add some black tights and boots and you’ve got yourself a trendsetting outfit.
Crop tops
Most people assume crop tops equal lots of midriff showing. While that is true in many cases, it does not always have to be, especially in autumn and winter. You can wear high waisted trousers or a high-waisted maxi skirt with your summer crop top. Add a blazer, vest, or jacket over the crop top to create an elegant and fashion forward look.
The best thing to do with your wardrobe is to try different things on and mix and match pieces from different seasons. The only way to come up with new outfits without spending more money is to experiment with what you already have in your wardrobe. Don’t shy away from trying on a summer tank top under one of your chunky winter sweaters or army jackets. The greatest part about fashion is that it is unique to you and you can create your own look every single day. Oscar de la Renta says, “Fashion is about dressing according to what’s fashionable. The style is more about being yourself.” Be yourself and create your own style, but don’t be afraid to try new things!
