With everything going on in the world right now, it’s very hard to stay positive. Especially for those of us who are isolated and quarantined – we’re all running out of things to do and our days are becoming dull and gloomy. This is why we need to practice self care and find things that uplift our mood.
So please, don’t fall into desperation! There are so many activities that you can do on your own, at your home. And if you’re into beauty, the list of fun, refreshing treatments to do is so long! It’s no secret that a good old pampering sesh can help you relieve stress and boost your mood.
Today, we are sharing some ideas for your nails. These will definitely cheer you up and fill your free time.
Remove Your Gel Polish
If you’re stuck with a set of overgrown gel nails, don’t panic! You don’t have to look at your nails with disgust while you’re waiting for the salons to reopen. You can do them yourself! Yes, removing your gel nails at home sounds terrifying, but it’s actually quite simple. You’re going to need 100% pure acetone, a buffer or a nail file and a cuticle pusher tool. Start off with buffing your nails to remove the protective top coat – file off as much as you can. Next, pour some acetone in a small bowl and dunk your nails in. Let them soak for around 10 minutes – the longer they’re soaked, the easier they’ll come off. Once you feel them soften, take them out of the bowl and start removing the gel with a cuticle pusher. Slowly push off the color, but don’t push too hard – you don’t want to damage your nails. The gel should come off easily. And just like that, you’ll finally be free from those terrible nails!
Do It Like a Pro
The truth is, we all miss our nail technicians, brow ladies, estheticians, massage therapists… But to keep life as normal as possible during these difficult times, we need to learn to work with what we got. Thank God we’ve got the Internet and a lot of time on our hands! So, if you’re used to getting your nails done regularly, now’s the right time to learn how to do it.
There are thousands of DIY tutorials on gel nails online that you can learn from step by step. And the tools for a good manicure – they’re also available online! You’ll need to order a few things: a UV Nail lamp, some gel polish (a base coat, gel colors and a top coat), buffers/nail files and a cuticle pusher. Once you get your tools, the possibilities are endless! You’ll get to learn a new skill and your nails will look fresh all the time, which will definitely put you in a good mood.
Play With Colors
We’re cancelling going out and socializing, but we’re not cancelling positivity! It is a known fact that colors play a huge role in how we feel. Right now we don’t want to be surrounded by dark, gloomy shades. We need colors that promote good energy! Choose bright hues like yellow, fuchsia, orange, turquoise…Don’t be afraid to experiment and play with colors. Seeing these bold shades on your nails can uplift your mood and instantly cheer you up!
If you’re a neutral manicure type of girl, or if your workplace doesn’t allow vibrant tones, now’s the time to try them all out. Also, don’t forget to add glitter and bedazzle those nails, because glitter makes everything better!
Give Your Nails Some Love
As we’re diving into self care with face masks, scrubs and bubble baths, we need to remember to give our nails some love as well. If you feel like your nails are getting brittle and thin, it’s time to treat them with some masks. You can get some nail masks online, or choose natural remedies and make some yourself. Here are some ideas for your homemade nail treatment.
Strengthening nail mask
Mix 1 egg and 1 tablespoon of raw honey, apply to your nails and cuticles and let it sit for 15 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water. This mask is amazing because honey is extremely moisturizing, and eggs contain the protein that your nails need to get strong!
Brightening nail mask
Mix 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice with 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Soak your nails for around 10 minutes and rinse with lukewarm water. The combination of lemon and baking soda will brighten your nails, and the olive oil will give them some moisture! For best results, do this treatment 3 – 5 times a week.
Moisturizing nail mask
Combine 1 tablespoon of raw honey with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Apply on your nails and let it work for around 15 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water. This mask is deeply nourishing because both ingredients have moisturizing properties. It’s such an easy way to rejuvenate your nails and cuticles!
Whatever you choose, your nails will be grateful. It’s good to give them some rest from time to time and let them get strong and healthy!
Hang in there…
Soon, all of this will go away and we’ll be able to go back to our normal lives. Until that time comes, let’s remember to appreciate what we have and find joy in the little things. As the legendary Tolkien once said “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us”. Let’s use it wisely and don’t let this situation bring us down. We’re coming out of this strong and beautiful.
Stay safe and healthy!
