Girls have been stealing their boyfriends’ hoodies for years. It’s not only a symbol of the relationship (marking your territory), but it’s also a cozy, cute and manly-smelling reminder of them when they’re not around!
But times are changing, and now us girls are branching out by stealing more and more of our beloved boyfriend’s apparel. If you want to double your outfit options without having to spend a single penny or set foot in a single store, then raiding your boyfriend’s wardrobe might just be the only option. Here are a few trends that are going to be huge this year and are very much accessible from your significant other’s wardrobe.
1. The White Shirt
The chances are, you may have stolen a boyfriend’s button-down as a “morning-after” fashion fix at some point or another. Well, that oversized shirt is good for much more than just this! It looks FAB paired with some ripped skinnies or even as a shirt dress (if it’s long enough of course!) If it’s ultra-baggy and shapeless in the back, try creating some makeshift darts by pinning the side, then simply roll up the sleeves to get rid of the excess length.
2. His Bomber Jacket
Bomber jackets are all the rage right now, and they’re all oversized and longline. So, if for example, your boy has a perfectly serviceable white bomber jacket in his wardrobe, why waste money of buying your own? His one will create a more realistic oversized vibe anyway, right?
3. His Leather Belts
Nothing creates a sexier waist belt that a men’s leather jean belt – this is an actual fact. Alternatively, turn your boyfriend’s boring brown belt into a statement piece by wearing it with a pair of low-slung jeans. Way too big on you? Knot the end and leave a short length hanging down for an ultra-relaxed vibe.
4. His Watch
Ever since I stole my boyfriend’s watch I’ve never actually bought myself a female watch again! I just love that men’s watches are so much more of a statement and sit on the wrist in a relaxed, bangle-like style. This also mean that you don’t need to add any extra accessories as the watch can make a big enough statement on its own. The larger faces mean they bring so much more attention and their look makes your outfit pop. If he has a bracelet style watch, you may even be able to get it resized to fit your wrist, just take it to a jeweler to find out.
5. The Boyfriend Sweater
Like the hoodie, this steal is a must. A more up-to-date version perhaps, pairing a mens sweatshirt with some girly items like a leather skirt and a statement necklace creates a killer outfit that’s as comfortable as it is chic. The key to making this look work and prevent you from looking like you’re drowning in an excess fabric is a balance. If you wear one masculine item, make sure it is balanced with something light and feminine. A men’s sweatshirt worn over a silk shirt, for example.
Do you have any other items you love snaffling from your boyfriend’s closet? This year is for sure the year to embrace his style as your own – there’s a world of possibilities lurking in his wardrobe you just need to go find them! And of course, you don’t need to have a boyfriend to make this style work! Expand your options the next time you go shopping by checking out the men’s section of your favorite stores – your sartorial choices will literally double right before your eyes!
